After yesterday's rest day it was a bit of a shock to the system to be back at it - 34 miles and a whopping 1,700m of climbing.
The morning was spent on the Great Glen Way north of Loch Ness. It involved two fairly stiff climbs but the views were spectacular.
The lunch pitstop was at Drumnadrochit Shinty Pavilion where Annie had enlisted local lad Kaleb to help with the drop bags. He'd come down to the Shinty pitch with his Caman (shinty stick) hoping to have a knock about. I offered my services in response to which Kaleb asked if I could actually play. I explained I used to play over 30 years ago, which seemed to be acceptable to Kaleb and so we spent a very enjoyable 10 minutes knocking a Shinty ball about together - great fun! At the end I was delighted that Kaleb suggested I should start playing again - although be it on the grounds or age or ability, I doubt I'd make the Drumnadrochit junior team.
The afternoon was a bit of a slog - more climbing on forest roads. The finish however was at Lovat Shinty Pavilion to complete a very Shinty themed day. I found it quite moving that even in very modest villages, the Shinty Pavilion is a focal point for the community with huge amounts of history & pride in their local club.

Alternative fuel choice in the highlands
With most of the team on the Great Glen Way, north of Loch Ness, doubts begin to arise as to whether Greg is still taking this run seriously!😉
