Our fourth & final rest day. It is becoming a familiar drill... Lie in until 7pm, physio apt at 8am then the Premier Inn "all you can eat" breakfast.
Then it's time to try and get our collective washing together without anyone feeling the need to convene COBRA due to a suspected chemical warfare attack.
With the "admin" done, there was opportunity for a stroll to the local shop for supplies before a visit to Inverness Botanical Gardens for lunch with Andrew (No 2 son). Great to see him.
Andrew & I had a stroll into the town centre before Andrew headed off and an old uni pal Neil popped up. We spent an enjoyable hour putting the world to rights down by the Caledonian Canal.
By late afternoon though it is time to get the running head back on.
As runners, we are about to start our final week. I'm grateful for all the messages of support.
The scoreboard currently reads:
Official distance run: 813 miles
Actual distance run: 822 miles (now tracking 9 miles over)
Distance remaining: approx 200 miles (we've yet to get full GPX files to be more accurate)
Whilst we are around 80% of the way through this, "nearly there" is contextual rather than absolute. We still have 8 marathons to do in 6 days, or the equivalent of running from Manchester to London. There is still quite a lot of Britain left north of Inverness!
In terms of runners (and in a correction to earlier blog post) we were 22 runners at the start, 21 remain on tour. 7 of us have covered every mile since Land's End however all are having their own journeys with injuries and the like. The art installation pictured below captures the essence of that.
I'm excited to be starting our final week tomorrow. Trying to stay focused knowing that we are less than a week from the end of this adventure.
Some art in Inverness that kinda resonates right now
