T minus 10

10 days to go until the start at Land's End at 7am on 31st May. The start of Britain's longest ultra-marathon and what I hope will be a 1,030 mile running adventure, the length of the country on some of Britain's finest trails.

I've been fortunate to have had the last year just to prepare for this event without any work obligations and it feels a real privilege to be able to give this a go - especially getting to the start line, injury free with some decent milage and climbing in the bank. I've thoroughly enjoyed the process of training and some of the adventures I've had and people I have met along the way.

With the training all but done and the taper under way, I am making this blog public. This is my first go at doing a blog & it is all an experiment. At the moment it merely gives an overview of the mental and physical preparation I've been doing. It is my intent that from 29th May (two days before the start) to chart the journey with a daily blog post. These will be short, and will likely take the form of a handful of photos and a brief paragraph or two on the day's progress.

These blog posts, coupled with following on the Tracker page, will enable anyone that wants to see how things are going. I'm only intending to put the occasional update on social media.

One of the things I've been experimenting with these past few weeks is filming running with a drone. Here is a wee tongue-in-cheek drone video of my last significant training run before the taper. Those based in Peeblesshire will likely recognise the route as Traquair to the Three Brethren on the Southern Upland Way. We have been blessed with some fantastic weather these last couple of months which has made the training easier.

I'm not sure yet whether the drone will be making it into the kit bag.
